del.icio.us - cool social-ware. Keep your favorites on the web instead of in your local browser. This way you've got access to your fav's whether you are at your pc or another one that has web access. Another neat aspect is that you can share your favorites and others can share with you, so the community can bubble up truly cool and useful sites.

Firefox and Parakey. Just read IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers) article about a Firefox co-founder who is now working on Parakey. Parakey is a type of social-ware. So many interesting stories, so little time.

Email. Email issues are getting more visible on the industry radar. Word on the street is that spam was up 30% in general last month. A recent ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) article focuses on two paths in particular to resolve authentication issues: 1) individual identity (like public/private keys), and 2) server identity (for example the domain server should have the sender identity stored/tracked in a list). I'll leave it here for now.

twitter.com - cool social networking software. Add it to your favorite dashboard (mygoogle, myyahoo, etc). Biz Stone (he's cool) worked on this, and it's cool. Obvious.com, twitter, and odeo(?) all looked cool.

Moblog:
How about sms/mms approach? Dale mentioned opensource kannel.org. WAP and sms server. A text message would likely be first candidate (easier), then move on to images (mms-like). Need to keep in mind size constraint.

Does TMobile (my carrier) site contain api for developer at-large? Didn't see obvious developer api pointers/links. Perhpas I missed it. I'll check again later.

wikipedia http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SMS_gateways there are free open-source sms services out there. Cool. anything helpful here? Maybe there is a model we can use/emulate. For your info, dear reader, there are the following interesting groups of services.
- Free third-party Email to SMS gateways
- Free third-party Web to SMS gateways
- and of course Commercial services

I tried out free text message with matezap.com. Sent message from web to my phone. Easy and immediately successful. Nice, quick... oh and FREE.

OK, I messaged (using PalmOne Messaging v.2.0) two new photos to go@blogger.com then blogger posted them to my somanystories.blogspot.com. They are in place. I'm creating this new post to be sure my recently posted photos stay put. Fun with technology. Here is blogger info for the curious mind:

Would be fun, but not happening for now. Received message on my treo that "blogger post failed" as "blogger does not accept audio/wav files." Good to know.

Emailed a photo from my phone to flickr. A simple victory is satisfying.

Poked around Flickr and found geo tags. Photos are tagged to world map.

There is functionality to add a blog to flickr. Having trouble adding this blog to flickr. Using www.flickr.com/blogs_add_blogger.gne.

HOLD THE PHONE! I emailed a photo from my phone to blogger. I saw it, but then I did something (like re-publish while it was in draft maybe?) and then it disappeared. I'll email it again, and we'll have the photo here in a couple minutes. Cool!

This story is about the software development journey. My goal is to help a nonprofit build capability to enable a person to email a photo from a smartphone to a blog. This technology exists thanks to Blogger (hello - right here at this blog) and Flickr. Flickr doesn't claim to be a blog site, but they offer to work with user-specified blog (btw blogger was their first recommendation so kudos to blogger). We don't have all the pieces yet, so we're looking for them and developing what ever we can't find already existing in the open source arena.

This blog is for the next "web-development-newbie" looking for help. The plan is to make this an inspirational story with a successful outcome. So alright, let's take a deep breath and go forward.
